1TGOLF 9HOLE Pub Golf

Enable golfers and non-golfers to experience the addictive fun of playing golf in a non-golf-course environment like a pub. There are many GOLF PUB challenges online and also various board- and dice- games based on golf. The 1TGOLF 9HOLE Pub Challenge is a unique variation designed by us, we hope you like it.

I was introduce to the concept [ Battle of the Brands ] in golf by Kowie Botha, from there on the idea stuck.
-Tinus de Beer Founder Player @ 1TGOLF

The key concept behind the 9HOLE Pub Challenge is to get players to dress for golf, pitch up at one or more pubs and play them like golf holes in a predetermined sequence to form a golf course of consecutive holes. Players play a hole by taking turns to throw a single 6 sided die to determine their score on the hole. The player with the lowest score wins the hole. There are also traps (sand & water) just like on a golf course to penalise a player with a shooter or a fine for players on the wagon (non-drinkers). The game is designed for 2 or more players with 3 variations, individual stroke play, team match play or four-ball alliance.

Company staff members can compete against other company's staff members, hence the ability to have brands or departments compete against each other in a Battle of the Brands event.

The 1TGOLF Centurion 9HOLE Pub Course

We designed a golf course in Centurion, Gauteng (South Africa), the 1TGOLF hometown. Come join us as we play our 9HOLE Pub Course or have fun designing your own course in your hometown and get your friends to play with. All you need to do is identify 9HOLES (pubs) in close proximity of each other (for easy travel), determine the sequence, give each hole (pub) a funny golf reference as a name and a PAR score to total up to a standard 36 PAR score for 9HOLES.

HOLE PUB REFERENCE PAR
HOLE 1 Whisk Wine Bar The Worm-Burner
A golf shot (not a putt) in which the ball never gets but a few feet off the ground.
PAR 4
HOLE 2 Railways Cafe The Rainmaker
A golf shot with a very high trajectory.
PAR 5
HOLE 3 Jitterbugz Pub & Lounge The Yips
Due to nervousness and lack of a smooth putting stroke, the inability to make short putts.

 Rules of Play

NOT FOR PLAYERS UNDER THE AGE OF 21, even though the legal drinking age in South Africa is 18.
SMOKING VENUES, please note most holes (pubs) are smoking venues.
  1. Each player has too dress like a golfer (from any era) with the exception to golf shoes (also known as spiked shoes). Players can choose to add golf accessories (within reason). Please note you are going to a pub and need to respect the other patrons.
  2. Play should preferably occur at the bar counter or high tables where players have quick access and service from the bar.
  3. Each player takes a turn to throw the die (dice) at a pub (hole).
  4. The player score is recorded hole-by-hole on the scorecard. See The Scoring Mechanics Below
  5. The player drinks or nominates a shooter where and when applicable as per the player score on the hole.
  6. Player shooters are recorded on the scorecard as penalties.
  7. A player may opt to pay a R10 (ten South African Rand) fine to the bar tender or waiter instead of drinking a shooter.
  8. Player fines are recorded on the scorecard.
  9. When a penalty (or fine) applies to a player the penalty (or fine) must be concluded before the next player is allowed to throw the dice.
  10. Players should not spend more than 30min at a hole (pub) too speed up play if they intend to complete the 9HOLE Pub Course within 4 to 5 hours.
  11. A bar tender or waiter must sign as the hole official at each hole (pub) before players can continue to the next hole (pub).
  12. The Player with the lowest score on the previous hole (pub) has the honours, meaning they throw first at the next hole (pub) followed by the next lowest scoring player. Gentleman, please remember in a tie a lady always has the honours.
  13. Players do not have to visit each hole (pub) and can choose to complete the game at a pub of their choosing.
  14. Hole (pub) tabs, inclusive of all food, beverages & penalty shooters are paid for by the players before departure. Be kind and tip for your service, 10 - 30% of your bill total is the norm.
INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION
At the end of the round scores are totalled and the player with the lowest score WINS. In the event of a draw between players, the players can opt to play knock-out holes until a single player remains as the WINNER.

TEAM / MATCH PLAY COMPETITION
Players can opt to play in teams of two against each other also known as match play, then the lowest score of a player in each team is used hole-by-hole. If the scores are equal the teams half the hole, if a score is less a team wins a hole. The team with the highest number in holes won WINS. In the event of a draw between teams, the teams can opt to play knock-out holes until a single team remains as the WINNER.

4BALL COMPETITION (Used for Battle-of-the-Brands)
Players can opt to play as a four-ball against another four-ball in an alliance, then the two lowest scores of all the players are added together hole-by-hole. For example on Hole 1 Player A, B, C & D scores are as follows; 3, 4, 5 & 6, then the hole score for the four-ball team is 3 + 4 = 7, (3 & 4 being the two lowest numbers). The hole-by-hole scores are totalled and the four-ball with the lowest score WINS. If the total scores are equal the four-balls can opt to play knock-out holes until a single four-ball remains as the WINNER.

 The Scoring Mechanics

The following scoring mechanics apply to the PAR score of the hole being played with a SINGLE 6 SIDED DIE.
Low alcohol volume shooters were selected for penalties to allow for play across 9HOLES. Jägermeister = 35%, Schnapps = 15 - 20% and Cactus Jack = 15%.
They are illustrative only and may be substituted for similar low alcohol volume shooters in your 9HOLE Pub Challenge.

 About Us
1TGOLF (pronounced one - tee - golf) is a National Golf Challenge, it is about that "one more tee" feeling golfers get after playing a good round of golf, playing an amazing golf shot, scoring an eagle, birdie, par or even after going down in a blaze of bogeys. We all have that hunger too tee up just one more.

The core of the 1TGOLF Challenge is to have golfers compete through their love for the golf. The act of playing golf is rewarded using a point system to challenge golfers to tee up and support more golf courses in South Africa.

1TGOLF is managed and powered by MYCITO.
